This seated female figure is characteristic of Dogon art in the area
of Bandiagara cliffs. The most notable elements are short bent legs
and lengthened arms, with the breasts located high on the chest.
This object was probably placed on a family's ancestral altar to
serve as supports for the deceased ancestors' soul (vageu). It
is here about a particularly elegant specimen of this type of object.
